Take the tester to the job!

The TIME TH-172 (now TIME5102) series portable metal hardness testers with C-type LEEB indenter for thin-walled and lightweight test sample pieces. 

The TH-172 tester is ideal for use in applications where bench mounted hardness testers cannot be used. They are a compact and portable tester with auto average calculation and internal memory. Powered by a pair of AAA batteries making it suitable for use on site, in the field or on the factory floor.

By measuring the impact velocity and the rebound velocity of the indenter, the hardness results are measured in the LEEB Scale (HLC). They are then automatically converted and displayed directly in the selected test scale, such as: Rockwell C (HRC), Rockwell B (HRB), Brinell (HB/HBN) or Vickers (HV). 

Metals that can be tested are Steel (cold work tool or cast) and cast Aluminium Alloy.

TH-172 (TIME5102) - Thin material (HLC)

Featuring a C-type impact device with a lighter impact force, the TH-172 can test surface hardened components, coatings and thin walled components from 1mm thickness, provided they are securely supported and "coupled".  * Samples that are not coupled can dissipate the rebound energy through vibration which can result in a false, low hardness reading.  

IMPORTANT - Each type of impact device has minimum test sample thickness and weight. You may require a rigid support and/or coupling to a thick, heavier, non-yielding surface to resist the impact of the device.

For the purpose of a LEEB hardness test, "Coupled" means securely clamped to a larger, solid support AND using coupling fluid or gel.
