The "Geotester" Pocket Soil Penetrometer is designed for users that require a wider range of both cohesive and non-cohesive soils, from hard clay through to loose sandy loam and is ideal for on-site measurement of soil strength. 

It is most commonly used in land care, farming and also the construction industry. The Geotester comes with 5 different size plunger tips to provide the ability to test a broader range of soil types.  To obtain a reading push the Penetrometer gently into the soil to the indication groove line.  The results are worked out by a data table (included), based on the result value and the tip size/type.  

The results corellating are:

• Unconfined compressive strength
• The angle of internal friction "Phi"
• The Cohesion "C"

The piston is pressed into the soil up to the calibration notch. The maximum force is retained on the dial until released by a push button. Best practice is to take the average over 10 results.

All external parts are made from stainless steel; the spring is nickel-plated steel and the internal mechanics are brass.

It has tips of 1/4", 10mm, 15mm, 20mm and 25mm diamenter.

Its outer dial reads the penetration force in Kg.

Its inner dial is calibrated in unconfined compressive stregth for the 1/4" tip, with the units being kg/sq. cm, which is equal to Tsf.
