Starr Instruments DD-100 series analogue dial Durometer is used to test the Shore hardness of many different grades of rubber, plastic, elastomer, leather, wax etc.

They are a fully mechanical precision instrument with 'lazy arm' (Dual Needle) for peak hold measurement.

A Durometer works by measuring the resistance to an indentation that is made with a specific shape indenter and spring load, which values are based on the applicable Shore scale.

Our DD-100 Durometer is available in either Shore A or Shore D scale.

Shore A is used for soft to medium compound plastic, rubber and elastomers

Shore D is used on harder plastic and thermo-set resin etc.

Using the device is simple. Just press the Durometer against the object being tested and the needle will show the hardness value.  Peak results are indicated by the 'lazy' arm. Reset the lazy arm after each test.

ASTM D 2240 stadnard method best practice means taking average result from at least 5 measurements in each location.

Check out our Durometer buying guide in our blog for more information on choosing the correct Durometer scale for you testing needs.
